Rapid Deployment Drive-Through Healthcare Infrastructure
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Australian Temporary Structures delivered a fully operational drive-through testing facility for ACT Health in Canberra, providing fast, safe, and efficient patient processing at scale.

ACT Health Project Overview
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, ACT Health required a reliable, high-capacity solution to support community testing. Speed, safety, and operational efficiency were critical.
Australian Temporary Structures responded with a 20m x 20m x 5.2m industrial structure, purpose-built to support a drive-through testing model. The facility enabled healthcare teams to safely manage patient flow while maintaining strict health and safety protocols.
Installed in Canberra, the structure remained operational for six months, supporting ongoing pandemic response efforts and ensuring uninterrupted testing capacity for the community.

The Challenge
ACT Health needed a facility that could:
Be deployed quickly during a public health emergency
Support drive-through testing operations with efficient vehicle movement
Provide a safe, weather-protected environment for staff and patients
Meet operational demands over an extended period
Traditional construction timelines were not feasible, a rapid, modular solution was essential.
The Solution
ATS delivered a modular industrial healthcare structure designed specifically for high-throughput testing operations.
The building was configured to:
Enable smooth vehicle entry and exit for drive-through testing
Provide sheltered work zones for healthcare staff
Maintain operational efficiency in all weather conditions
Support temporary healthcare infrastructure without long-term disruption

Key Features
The ACT Health facility incorporated a range of functional and performance-driven features:
Thermo roof system for temperature control and weather protection
4 x 5.0m roller doors to facilitate vehicle access and flow
UPVC hard walling (2.4m x 2.4m panels) for durability and hygiene
4 x windows for visibility and natural light
Entrance link structure (6m x 3m) for controlled access
Additional weighted structures (6m x 3m x 2) for operational support
4 x LED high bay lights for safe, well-lit working conditions
Supporting Emergency Healthcare Response
This project demonstrates how modular infrastructure can play a critical role in disaster & crisis health scenarios, including:
Pandemic response and surge capacity
Temporary testing and triage facilities
Rapid deployment healthcare environments
The flexibility of the structure allowed ACT Health to maintain high testing volumes while ensuring safety and efficiency for both staff and the public.

Why Modular Worked
Rapid installation during an urgent timeframe
Cost-effective alternative to permanent construction
Scalable and adaptable to evolving health requirements
Minimal disruption to surrounding infrastructure
Reliable performance over extended operational use
Project Outcome
The ACT Health COVID-19 testing facility successfully supported the community during a critical period, delivering:
Efficient and safe testing operations
Protection from environmental conditions
A flexible, temporary healthcare solution that met immediate needs
This project highlights the value of modular structures in delivering fast, compliant, and high-performance healthcare infrastructure when it matters most.
