Metro Trains Project

As part of Melbourne’s High Capacity Metro Trains (HCMT) project, Downer was tasked with building 65 new high-capacity metro trains. To support this initiative, ATS provided a temporary storage facility that was strategically installed directly onto the train tracks, ensuring immediate access to equipment and seamless shelter for ongoing mechanical transport maintenance.

  • 14 Bays of Steel Sheet Walls (5.00m per bay) with Cable Trays – Strong, durable walling to protect valuable machinery and tools while integrating structured cabling for electrical and data needs.

  • Insulated Electric Roller Doors (x2) – Ensures easy access for large equipment and transport vehicles, while maintaining thermal efficiency and security.

  • Personnel Access Door (x1) – Allows for safe and efficient worker movement in and out of the facility.

  • Integrated Lighting System – Provides optimal visibility for technicians working on transport maintenance, day or night.

Project Success

This lightweight industrial structure was installed directly onto the train tracks, showcasing the adaptability of modular industrial buildings for specialised transport infrastructure projects. The customised storage facility provided Downer with a secure, well-lit, and climate-controlled workspace, allowing for efficient rail maintenance and streamlined project operations.

By leveraging ATS’s light industrial buildings, the Metro Trains project benefited from fast deployment, high durability, and scalable solutions, ensuring long-term operational efficiency for Melbourne’s expanding metro network.
